The Homestyle CPM calculator

Reach does not equal value.

Media costs have levelled out across channels, and the era of low-cost online reach is largely behind us. Homestyle offers a competitive price per prospect, in the right context, with complete brand safety.

Your brand appears in front of an engaged, project-active audience: 41% of Homestyle readers are planning home improvements in the next 12 months. They read for a trusted, local edit of ideas and directional styling for their own homes, and they expect advertising to be part of that experience. They're not just browsing.

CPM is the cost of reaching 1,000 people. Raw CPM counts everyone. Prospect CPM counts only people who are in the market for your category and actually see the ad. That's the fair comparison: a low CPM isn't good value if most of the audience will never buy.

The underlying research is from Nielsen’s Readership Survey (NRS) to Q2, 2026.

Choose your category, compare it with the channel you use now, then tick the box to add the MPA's new Quality of Attention Index.

Lower is better. Channels without a Nielsen category index are priced at a general-population audience (index 100).

Homestyle readership (131,000) and category indices: Nielsen CMI, July 2025 – June 2026. Indices compare Homestyle readers with all New Zealanders 15+. Renovation categories are shares of the 54,000 readers planning home improvements in the next 12 months.

Prospect CPM = CPM ÷ share who see the ad ÷ (category index ÷ 100). For Homestyle the share is the page-exposure assumption above; for digital channels it is viewability. Viewability: open-programmatic display 55% (Pixalate, APAC, Q1 2025); direct display 86% and YouTube 90% (IAS Media Quality Report, Australia, 2025); other channels unadjusted. Quality of attention and ad attention scores (out of 100, active users) and the listening and viewing notes come from the MPA Quality of Attention Index; *display banners have no category in that study, so newspaper websites are used as the nearest proxy. Attention weighting uses the MPA Ad Attention Index (Martelletti Consulting, June 2026, n=1,037). Channel CPMs are guideline figures only; in New Zealand they are negotiated deal by deal.
